About the Classes
All Bubbling Spring Tai Chi classes are taught in a sequential manner. Each class involves building on moves or postures from the previous class until all the movements are learned. Therefore, students should plan to attend class weekly.
There is no special equipment or clothing required for classes. Individuals are encouraged to wear comfortable moveable clothes and flat shoes.
Tai Chi Fundamentals Course
Although it is ideal to start at the beginning of the course, individuals can join a class that is in progress at any time. Since each class starts with a review of the previously learned material, most people are able to pick up the moves within a few sessions.
Also, the TCF system is designed so that individuals can adapt the movements as needed to account for any physical limitations. It is fine to use a chair, walker or cane for extra support if needed during the class.
Tai Chi Ch’uan Classes
The movements of the 37 posture Cheng Man Ching Form are more complex and require a greater range of movement than the Tai Chi Fundamentals system. Nonetheless, anyone of any age who is reasonably mobile can learn the form.
Each student starts in a beginner’s class with the first posture. New students are allowed to join within the first 2 to 3 weeks of a new class but after that, the class is closed to new students. This allows for students to move forward as a group at the same pace.
Classes are typically taught in 8 week sessions. Students do not have to commit to learning the entire form in order to be in the class. It takes 8 to 12 months to learn the entire form.
Push hands or Sensing hands, a 2 person interactive exercise which applies Tai Chi principles to sparring, is learned after students complete the 37 posture form.
